Kitchen Upgrade: Appliances are in!

The kitchen is done! Well, I suppose we need to paint it, but the rest of the house is getting painted too. The fridge, dishwasher and stove look nice, and definitely fits the style better than the old (but still perfectly usable) bisque stuff.

 Something is missing.
 Hey, it's metal.
Fully stocked!

Cook that food!

Clean those plates.

Kitchen Upgrade: Floors are done

By the time we got home from the birthday party, the workers had already left. The floor looks really nice. In hindsight, not sure we'd go with laminate flooring if we knew all the specifics, but since we're not planning on staying much longer, it's not much of an issue. Definitely something we will keep in mind if the new house needs some work; and certainly a reason I wish I were more handy.

Kitchen Upgrade: Time for Floors

The new floors started today. We're still on track for putting the house on the market by early March. Here's what they started as.

From afar, it doesn't look terrible, but it's not exactly a modern look. When looking closer there are some issues of the tile coming up, or like under the dishwasher, missing. The two workers go a lot done today, but it was apparently very noisy. Here's some shots Jessica took this afternoon

Plenty of destruction.

And finally, here's where they left it this afternoon. Not much left to do.

Kitchen Upgrade: Finished for the Moment

The plumbers came by to day and attached the faucet, garbage disposal and dishwasher. The next step is to get quotes for installing some new flooring.

Kitchen Upgrade: Day 3

We're 96% done! Today involved the cabinetry contractor finishing up the work that yesterday's snowstorm kept him from doing. Then around 1:00 the counter top guys came in. The only thing left is for the plumber to put in the faucet then reattach the garbage disposal and dishwasher. I really like the look of the molding on the top. But you can really tell that the appliances are old. So which is next, flooring or appliances?

Upon careful inspection you can see that the cats have been released from their prison.

Kitchen Upgrade: Day 2

The morning snowstorm and the ensuing traffic problems delayed the contractor this morning, so he wasn't quite able to finish his work today. The countertops are scheduled to arrive between 11:30 and 1:30 so he should have enough time to, if not be finished, be far enough along that they won't be in each other's way.

There's not much left to do. All the drawers are assembled, but not installed. The white laminate will go on the toekick and all the handles need to be attached. There's also a crown molding that will go around the top.

Kitchen Upgrade: Day 1

Day 1 is over and it's looking pretty good. The contractor stayed much later than I expected; though he also showed up later than I expected. But I think he stayed so late because he's determined to be finished in two days instead of three.

After some initial removal of a few items, demolition started in earnest.

It also revealed some awesome wallpaper that was covered up

The dust-protector kept all the sawdust confined and left an air of mystery to the proceedings.

Here's how it looks overnight. Not too different from afar from the first picture, but there was a good deal of sanding and the bottoms of the upper cabinets have been finished. most (all?) of the upper cabinet sides have the white laminate attached too.

Here's a closer look at the cabinets

Finally, here are the doors, just waiting to be attached. Incidentally, Jameson really liked seeing the hardware being screwed into the doors.

Kitchen Upgrade

After over a year of thought and consideration we are finally upgrading our kitchen (with an eye towards selling). I'm posting this after midnight so the work technically starts today. Here are the  "before" pictures.

We're just updating the cabinetry right now. We will eventually get new flooring.
